Over the last year or so, I made it a point to read everything I could get my hands on at the library that had anything to do with bees, and then I found this website with instructions for making an incredibly simple and inexpensive Kenya Top Bar Hive. May is peak swarm season. In other words: Budget DIY Hive+ Try to Capture a Swarm for Free= I Couldn't Resist.
So, I went into town with my list of materials. It was Sunday morning and the home improvement store was understaffed, so the employees and my fellow shoppers were all in nasty moods. I wandered around for a bit, then decided to divide and conquer: focus on the main hive body today, then go back later for the other stuff I will need.
1x12- one 8' board, cut in half to make two 4' boards
1x12- one 8' board, cut down to 15" lengths
1x6- one 6' board, cut down to 4'
